Essential oils have been proven to stimulate hair growth when used consistently for an extended period of time. Though there are many essential oils that can be used to aid in my hair growth journey, I have fallen in love with 2 in particular:
Rosemary & Peppermint
Rosemary oils and teas have been used extensively in hair care and hair products for centuries. When this oil is used consistently on a regulary basis, rosemary will stimulate hair follicles and encourage growth - ultimately allowing my hair to grow to its longest lengths while strengthening it in the process. It is aslo said that rosemary helps decrease the graying of hair...but I can't vouch for that! The essential oil of rosemary is frequently used as a part of hair tonics for people who experience pre-mature balding and its natural astringent properties help with dry, flaky, itchy sclaps. I use my rosemary in my daily co-wash and in my Mega Tek mix.
Peppermint is sooo wonderful! I love the tingly sensation it leaves on my scalp and it smells divine! Peppermint is another oil that is commonly used in hair products, specifically because of its stimulation effects. I like to think that the tingle means its working! Peppermint essential oil is also touted to help with dry, itchy scalps. I also add this oil to my daily co-wash and Mega Tek blend. CAUTION: too much peppermint will burn.
Other essential oils that are good to help encourage healthy hair growth are cedarwod, lavendar, chamomile, bay, lemon and grapefruit.
It is not a bad idea to get in the habit of regularly massaging your scalp with a few drops of essential oils. Since essential oils are very potent, a very little goes a long way.
According to the November/December issue of Health magazine dermatologists at Royal Infirmary in Scotland gave 43 people suffering from patchy hair loss an essential oil blend and instructed them to rub it on their scalps every day. After only 7 months, approximately 44% of the patients regrew as much as HALF of their hair back. Here is the blend of carrier and essential oils that was used:
2 drops Thyme EO, 2 drops Atlas Cedarwood EO, 3 drops Lavendar EO, 3 drops Rosemary EO, 1/2 tsp Jojoba oil and 4 tsp Grapeseed oil
Happy Hair Growing!

Fabulous article! I love using essential oils. I started off using essential oils in my henna mix and branched out to using them in conditioners and prepoos. I love rosemary, cedarwood, clary sage, peppermint, lavendar, and sweet orange. Today's prepoo consisted of grapeseed oil, aloe vera, SAA, peppermint oil, and sweet orange oil. It was stimulating, but cooling and soothing too!
