Ok, so it really isn't fair for me to review a product that I've never actually tried, but I'm doing it any way!!!
On my last Curlaway post, I highlighted the things that made me go "hmmmmmmmm" about the product and one of those things was the first ingredient listed on the ingredient list:
Patented Curlaway Curl Relaxer contains naturally-derived aqueous acetic acid (pH lowering agent)
What piqued my interest most about this patented ingredient was the acetic acid part...I thought to myself, WHERE have I heard of this before, so I went to my trusty Google toolbar and searched for it...
Acetic Acid: also known as ethanoic acid, is an organic acid that gives vinegar its sour taste and pungent smell. Pure water-free acetic acid absorbs water from the environment. (Credit)
So that is it! I'd heard of acetic acid because it's a primary ingredient in VINEGAR!
That got me to thinking...if the main ingredient in this stuff is basically the same stuff that's in vinegar and in order for it to even work well you have to use it over and over again, is this the ONLY curl "relaxing" application out there?
Of course it isn't. There are other so called "safe" and "chemical free" relaxers on the market. For the 20 bucks Xenna wants for Curlaway, you might as well give some of the homemade curl relaxing applications and add that $20 to your savings account or something...
There is at least one recipe that you could use instead that is probably just as effective as Curlaway and maybe even better and for the sake of not making this post longer than it needs to be, check back tomorrow for the recipe...
Happy hair straightening!
