Reader: Hi LDHC! I'm in need of DESPERATE help in repairing my hair, here's my background information:
I have been wearing a glue in weave for 5 years and am finally at a breaking point. I looked in the mirror and saw that my hair was barely covering the tracks. The hair from the top of my head all the way down to my nape is about an inch now.
What regimen would you suggest I initiate to begin regrowth?

LHDC: The first thing you should know is that you CAN get you hair in the condition that you want it in AND grow it while doing so. Once you accept that, the rest will be easy.
Are you still using glue to hold your weave in? If so STOP. Consider switching to sew-ins or wigs if you feel it necessary to to use this type of protective styling while you get your hair back in shape.
Adopt a regular cleansing routine complete with a pre-shampoo treatment and cleanse at least once a week with a moisturizing, sulfate-free shampoo.
Moisturize your hair DAILY with a water-based moisturizer. At this point moisture is going to be your focus. Deep condition your hair at least once a week with a moisturizing conditioner that is formulated for deep treating.
Use heat as little as possible - ideally not at all until you get your hair where you want it to be...
Is your hair relaxed? How often are you relaxing?
Start off with these tips and be consistent with them. It is going to take time for you to see results so don't get frustrated. Take a picutre of your hair now, and then again in 6 months.
Thanks so much for reading Long Hair Don't Care and keep me posted on your progress!!!

Sorry for the extra late response. Unfortunatly I didn't take pictures but to paint a picture of how it was before hand. I only had an outline of a hairline....I didn't hav edges. And the front area of my hair was broke off from the excessive weave glue.
My edges are still short but they are filled. I started my reggie in March of this year my hair has grown 5 inches (last I've checked was the end of Sept. I'm patient because I'm aware of how uneven my hair was plus my hair has never looked so healthy. I'm waiting until Dec to cut it even and continue my journey.

C.J,
Please share what Iodine and Castor Oil did specifically for you? Very interesting.
Reader Mail author,
We as black women have such a psychological connection with our hair and looking 'fly'. Once you can let go of that connection you will be free to grow your hair and do whatever it takes, Good Luck and happy growing!

Being new here I can only speak on what I know..(lol..in otherwords I'm far from an expert...but here is what I know).
For me it was hard giving up glued tracks. Even when I saw my hair breaking I still continued. When I took a look at my hair and I was broken down to tears that's when I knew I needed to change.
Castor oil, white iodine and co washing. I use castor oil twice a week and white iodine one a week. I started off wearing wigs until my hair grew to a point to wear I could wear a "weaved" ponytail.
You may have to order the iodine off of ebay. But, it's a great source especially for those areas that have developed alopecia. Hope that somewhat helps.
