My regimen right now is VERY simple..and it's not set in stone.
I wash and DC once a week FAITHFULLY.
- DC on dry hair first and then wash with diluted shampoo.
- After the shampoo is thoroughly rinsed I do a quick condition with an instant conditioner to soften the hair back
- Then I apply my leave in..and rollerset..if I'm not lazy..
If I'm being lazy..
- Then bun after it's dried..if I'm going to bun.
To maintain my styles between cleansing…
- Roller sets: pin curl if I want to keep the curls
- Straight styles: wrap for a night or two and then loosely create a bun there after and in the morning my hair is still straight.
- Protective styles: I may co-wash once or twice out of the week while I’m protective styling. If I’m not bunning...brace yourselves...
I'll do two Pocahontas plaits..ALL WEEK LONG..co-washing with them in as well.
I know I'm too old for this..lol..but it's so darn easy..especially when stretching….
Relax: between 12-16 weeks normally
Heat: I'm done with direct heat..but I've done it twice in one month sometimes...
Trims: I went a whole year once w/o a trim..that's b/c I used NO heat that whole year..then I trimmed every 6 months. Now that i'm at my goal I will trim with every relaxer.
What was the longest your hair had been prior to starting your hair journey?
Always SL or a bit longer, before the damage, but never quite APL
What are your top 5 hair growth tips?
*if you relax, stretch them for as long as you and your hair can handle
*minimize heat usage
*deep condition!!
*protective styling and keeping my hands out of my head for as long as possible
*stick to what works
What has been the most difficult thing for you to overcome in growing your hair?
My journey was actually pretty uneventful. I suffered some bad breakage from some Indian (Ayurvedic) powders I used. Thankfully, I was able to get that under control.
CORRECTION: THE DATE ON THE 2ND PIC SHOULD BE FEBRUARY 2010. THANKS ALANNA!
What's the best hair growing advice can you offer to those just starting out their hair growth journey?
BE PATIENT! if something works, stick to it. And forget the naysayers, 'cause you WILL have them. Don't give up! Nothing worth having comes over night.
Start out cheap. You don't want to break your pockets over products that don't work.
Don't jump on every bandwagon!
