Tell me about your Creme of Nature (CON)/Essence experience?
Wow, what can I say. I'm still in shock. I'm feeling a whole bunch of emotions at once but I can honestly say that I'm grateful and appreciative to have experienced something so monumental. Never did I think I would be in an ad especially in Essence. This is my first appearance in a magazine period. My family is really proud and I'm still on cloud 9 :-)
How did you get selected to endorse them?
Their marketing team reached out to me. They knew I loved CON products (via blogs, videos etc.), shortly after I took some head shot photos and ended up in Essence magazine.
What do you love so much about CON products?
Honestly, they just agree with my hair type and texture. I have very coarse resistant hair and I find that CON products really help to make my hair more manageable, smooth and hydrated whether I'm just relaxed or 10-13 weeks post relaxer. Their products are affordable and widely available.
A burning question everyone wants to know....how were you compensated if at all?
Hahaha, yes of course I was compensated, I'll leave it at that :)
Now you have a beautiful head of hair! So, let's switch gears and talk about that...what length is your hair?
Aww thank you! I'm currently Full Bra Strap Length
How long have you been on your hair growth journey?
I've been on my journey since October 2007 with a huge setback in between.
What length was your hair when you began your hair journey?
I was shoulder length with damaged ends when I began my journey.
Prior to your hair journey what is the longest your hair had been?
The longest it's been was probably a little passed shoulder length back when I was in my senior year of high school.
Do you trim at all?
Yes, I do trim my hair. Sometimes I'll trim with every other relaxer. However, I usually just dust my ends but I like to avoid thin ends so the frequent dusting helps.
How do you cleanse your hair and how often? What products do you use?
I cleanse my hair with shampoo or by co-washing (conditioner washing). I shampoo once a week and co-wash twice a week. The products I use for shampoo'ing would be Creme of Nature Detangling Shampoo, Abba Pure Color Protect Shampoo or Phyto Organics Theratin Shampoo. As for co-washing I use my staple conditioners i.e. Aussie Moist and Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship
How do you condition your hair and how often? What products do you use?
I condition my hair after I cleanse it. I prefer to deep condition with heat as it allows further penetration into the hair shaft. I sit under the dryer for 20-30mins with a plastic cap. I deep condition twice a week. I use Creme of Nature Nourishing and Strengthening Treatment, Silk Elements Mega Cholesterol, Abba Pure Color Protect Conditioner or Phyto Organics Humectin.
In terms of caring for your hair, what do you do? do you straighten? If so, how often? Is your hair chemically treated? What do you do to your hair on a day to day basis? Do you protective style?
I don't use heat often, maybe 1-2x every 2-3 months. I like to limit my heat usage as it's the quickest way to dry out the hair. My hair is chemically treated, I have a relaxer in my hair. On a day to day basis I protective style only. I moisturize and seal my hair/ends twice daily and wear my hair in a simple bun with accessories i.e. headbands, claw clips etc. That's about it. I like to keep my day to day styles simple and easy when on the go.
Who are some of your hair inspirations and why?
My hair inspiration would be BabygurlNC. She was and probably still is a member of longhaircareforum.com. Her hair literally made my jaw drop. She grew her hair from SL to WL in 4 years without the assistance of growth aids/pills. Her regimen was simple and it made sense. I still incorporate her styles and techniques in my regimen. She was the one that inspired me to start taking care of my hair. I want to give her a big shout out!
What is your length goal?
My goal length is Mid Back Length.
What do you consider your hair type to be?
My hair type is 4b/c. It's very coarse, resistant and dry. Not the best combination ..LOL
What has been the most challenging (hair related) thing for you to overcome while on your hair journey?
The most challenging thing for me to overcome while on my journey was my battle with thin ends back in late 2008. I was doing something wrong but I couldn't put my finger on it. My frustration led me to cut off 3-4" inches of my hair. So I went from BSL to SL/APL in the blink of an eye. It was hard but after that big chop I started to care for my hair differently. I started to deep condition and moisturize in sections and that helped to cure the problem.
What are your top 5 hair growth tips?
1. Keep your scalp clean, so wash every 3-4 days
2. Deep condition with heat at least once a week.
3. Keep your hair moisturized and seal those ends.
4. Practice protective styling. It will help you retain length.
5. Those who relax, stretch out those relaxers! You'll be surprised at how thick your hair will become overtime.
What is the best advice you can give to someone just starting out their hair jouney?
My advice to newbies would be to take your time! Starting out can be very overwhelming and you'll want to quit before you even start. So take your time, read up on different regimens, research different products and of course have patience!
Is there anywhere online I can follow your hair journey?
Yup, you can follow my journey at HairliciousInc.com or on my profile http://www.hairlista.com/profile/Sunshynewhich can be found on the Hairlista Inc. Social Network
Anything else you'd like to share?
Healthy hair is possible, just have patience! I've said that before and I'll say it again..LOL. Remember, this not a race to see who can reach BSL the fastest, it's a journey and a life style change so enjoy it.

Mermaid time.
Mermaids get an infinite supply of moisture and seaweed so they got it kinds good in that way. *sigh* As long as a shark don't bite it off, or a scissor fish doesn't swim by hahahahaha
