Last week's post about Grandma Esther got me to thinkin'...
What hair care practices from back in the day still hold up in your daily hair regimen?
Does your family have hair "secrets" that are passed down from generation to generation?
What are they?

Oh My Gosh BIA. You said it.
I don't now why my mama bought funky DAX! They figure just because a lady with long hair on it, they can put car oil and vaseline in jar and they'll buy it.

Lol at BIA no More's post!
The only thing that I think has stood the test of time for me was my mom's use of mayonnaise for deep conditioning. I still use it to this day and most commercial products cannot quite replicate the combination of protein and moisture that Mayo adds to my hair.
thanks Mom!

No we don't have any practices that have held true thru the generations.
I am sure we all lined up on Sunday to get our heads combed for the week. There Momma is with that coffee can filled with water dirty from the five heads combed before yours, the petroleum jelly that always ended up halfway across your face instead of just in your hair, and that brush so filled with hair it was a wonder it even worked anymore! Did your Momma brush your face! Like those pigtails wasn’t gonna turn out right unless a little face was brushed in the process.
I have learned that all the above are the enemy (except water, unless it is hard water like here in AZ)so I steer clear! I mean breakage, clogged hair follicles, and too tight ponies… no wonder I was bald!
I rank blue magic right up there with Kool-Aid and Cheese Sammiches... it was just a way of life then, but now I say no to the blue!
This generation we are determined to grow our black hair to its longest length and past practices will just not do!
We say YES to education!

(sorry missing my blog)
LHDC: LOL! BIA your comment sho' painted a picture! Vaseline (and even Blue Magic) are actually GREAT to use as sealants...there IS something to that good ol' grease and water when it comes to caring for Black hair...
