Sorry, but the charge that white people in general who like to touch natural black hair all feel entitled to black women's bodies due to the history of slavery is a stretch. In my opinion, white people are the most out-of-touch group of people historically, so I doubt that the institution of slavery and ownership crosses their mind when confronted with natural black hair. Indian and Mexicans have had the same reaction to my hair as whites. I do not like for strangers to just touch my hair or any other part of my person. I do chalk these things up to curiousity. So, if given my choice between the two, I'll take natural curiousity for $200, Alex.

Great article, I love the site!

I am Bissau-Guinean (west African),I've lived in Brazil for several years and now I live in Portugal.
Many of my college friends in both countries have a natural and genuine curiosity about my hair (4d or 4f) and, honestly, I can't really blame them. I used to change my looks a lot: from braids to relaxed, 'Rihanna' haircut to bald. It's something white women can't do! LOL

I had been considering going natural for about 3 or 4 years, but after watching "Good Hair" and seeing so many inspiring videos on Youtube, I decided to do it about a year ago.

Sometimes I feel frustrated because it's kinda hard to manage, but above all I'm proud of myself for being able to have the patience to let it grow the way it is.

Some people make comments that aren't nice, but for me it's worse when they come from other black women, who go like "why ??". I just hope one day they will understand and embrace their nature.

Our hair is unique and so are we.
It's time for black women to feel beautiful without trying to look like something they are not (and they will, once they realize it).

Cheers!

I dont really care whether or not they touch my hair as long as they're gentle with my hair and soak they me up in compliments heheheheheheheheeeee!!!!!

then they can follow me around with their hands in my head and tell me how lush it is and how they wish their hair was like mine and begging me to tell them how i do it and to beg me to please oh please oh please ooooh pleeease never ever cut it!!!! never ever do anything to that BBEAUTIFUL heaad of hair my dear!!! i love it i love it i love it!!!! then i can say oh my goodness thank you! i love you too!!

*hearts floating around head*
