Again, there are exceptions to the rule, but the majority of us CANNOT use heat on a regular basis if we want our hair to grow to its optimal length.
Direct heat works like this:
The tools that we use to heat style (blow dryers, pressing combs, flat irons, curling irons, etc) are designed to quickly evaporate much needed moisture from the hair's cortex. The LESS prepared your hair is for heat styling the more likely it will be you will experience heat damage.
Direct heat IN MODERATION is OK just be cautious...you don't want what is supposed to a temporary hair style to permanently damage your hair and hinder your growth.

We hear it and say it all the time - CHEMICALS ARE BAD! But WHY are they bad? In a nutshell, chemicals (hair dyes, relaxers, etc) permanently alter the molecular structure of your hair, oftentimes leaving it dry, brittle and highly susceptible to breakage.

I haven't done a Top 10 in a LONNNNNG time! My veteran readers probably vaguely remember a couple of my Top 10s but unless you've ever taken the time to scour the blog, you have no idea what I'm talking about!
Never fear! You'll be all filled in over the next 10 posts...why, over 10 posts? Well, I want to go into a bit of detail on each of my tips so rather than loading it all down in one extra long post, I'm spreading it out.
So, starting tomorrow, I'm bringing the Top 10 back!

READER: Hi,I am fully natural. I straigtened my hair 2 weekends ago in order to get it trimmed. I have washed it 4 to 5 times since then. My hair is now 1/2 straight and 1/2 curly. I want it all back curly. I am so sad, frustrated, and angry that this is happening to me. Any suggestions????

I received a couple questions on my ACV post last month, that I wanted to go ahead and address. So, here we go!
Tia says: "I have been wanting to try the ACV rinse as a spritz, but was wondering are you rinsing out the ACV after spritzing or leaving it in???"

As I read different books one message continues to resound the same: the hair is a delicate fiber and it must be handles with care. I’m sure you’re all familiar with the diagrams of the piece of hair magnified under a microscope. You see the scaly looking outer layer labeled as the cuticle and if you’re like me you are thinking, ‘man hair is ugly!’
Ironically that ugliness is what actually keeps your hair beautiful. The cuticle is the outer layer of the hair and it protects the center of the hair shaft called the cortex. The cuticle is easily damaged and once the cuticle is gone the hair is too! The upside of this is the cuticle is 7-10 layers thick, the downside to this is it is easily damaged.
