What length is your hair?
My loc's reach down to my lower back.
Tell me about your your hair journey? I have been growing my locks for almost 7 years. I gave up the life I had before where long straight hair was an obsession. I saw how unhappy I was when I was untrue to myself. So I finally made the choice to just stop. After a while all the “extra” stuff seemed like nonsense. I did not need the perms, chemicals or fake hair to be beautiful. And that’s how my love for natural hair began. From that point on, I make it a priority to learn from others and to share my own love and joy of natural hair.
What length was your hair when you started your journey?
I had 2 inches of new hair growth when fist I started my loc's.
Prior to your hair journey, what was the longest your hair had been?
My permed hair was shoulder length. But because I was constantly processing it, my hair would never grow.
Do you trim at all? Every once in a while, I will trim a loc that has gone crazy and is way longer than the other ones. Just to have some balance.
How do you cleanse your hair and how often? What products do you use?
I was my hair every two weeks. My favorite products are Dark & Lovely Peppermint Shampoo, IC Leave in Hair & Scalp Treatment, African Pride Oil and Lock & Twist Gel.

What length is your hair?
Bra strap length
Tell me about your regimen? What do you do to cleanse, condition and care for your hair?
To be honest, I don't really have a regimen anymore. Not since maybe July 2008. (Started my journey in March 2007).
Now I wear protective styles, use minimal direct heat and low manipulation. I keep my hair in plaits and wear wigs all the time. I wash my hair (with any shampoo) twice a month and deep condition on those days w. ORS hair mayonnaise.
I moisturise my ends regularly, not everday with ORS carrot oil.
I always wear a satin cap at night.
In my fotki you can see that I used to do a lot more... Over a year ago I used to do ayurveda, hot oil treatments, vitamins, etc but dont have the time anymore and work very long shifts and travel a ridiculously long way to get to work. I realised that the key for me is low manipulation and handling my hair very gently. I use a comb maybe once a month and finger comb the rest of the time.
What was the longest your hair had been prior to starting your hair journey?
Shoulder length.
What do you consider your hair type to be?

Tell me about your Creme of Nature (CON)/Essence experience?
Wow, what can I say. I'm still in shock. I'm feeling a whole bunch of emotions at once but I can honestly say that I'm grateful and appreciative to have experienced something so monumental. Never did I think I would be in an ad especially in Essence. This is my first appearance in a magazine period. My family is really proud and I'm still on cloud 9 :-)
How did you get selected to endorse them?
Their marketing team reached out to me. They knew I loved CON products (via blogs, videos etc.), shortly after I took some head shot photos and ended up in Essence magazine.
What do you love so much about CON products?
Honestly, they just agree with my hair type and texture. I have very coarse resistant hair and I find that CON products really help to make my hair more manageable, smooth and hydrated whether I'm just relaxed or 10-13 weeks post relaxer. Their products are affordable and widely available.
A burning question everyone wants to know....how were you compensated if at all?

My regimen right now is VERY simple..and it's not set in stone.
I wash and DC once a week FAITHFULLY.
- DC on dry hair first and then wash with diluted shampoo.
- After the shampoo is thoroughly rinsed I do a quick condition with an instant conditioner to soften the hair back
- Then I apply my leave in..and rollerset..if I'm not lazy..
If I'm being lazy..
- Then bun after it's dried..if I'm going to bun.
To maintain my styles between cleansing…
- Roller sets: pin curl if I want to keep the curls
- Straight styles: wrap for a night or two and then loosely create a bun there after and in the morning my hair is still straight.
- Protective styles: I may co-wash once or twice out of the week while I’m protective styling. If I’m not bunning...brace yourselves...

What length is your hair? My hair is currently an inch below my bra band. BSL, stretched of course.
How long have you been on your hair growth journey? I'm not totally sure how to answer this question because I'm not sure what counts as my journey or the start of it. I guess it should be when I started a hair care group through Meetup.com, even though my real reason for starting the group wasn't so much to do with my hair, but an excuse to meet with more black women. Shortly after that I found there was already a natural hair group in Chicago, so I abandoned mine, right around the time also of finding nappturality.com. That was the summer of 2007.
What length was your hair when you started your journey? I'm not sure because I didn't straighten my hair and I didn't stretch my hair to see how long it would be if it were straight. If I had to guess, I'd say a couple inches below shoulder length, I guess.
Prior to your hair journey, what was the longest your hair had been? Again, not sure. I didn't straighten my hair and I didn't stretch out a piece or measure it or anything. If I had to guess, somewhere between armpit length and bra strap length.

Meet Teri LaFlesh of TightlyCurly.com a website designed to help women and girls with...well, tightly curly hair!! Teri is bi-racial and has no problem sharing very personal and intimate stories about her hair and her hair journey. I had the very fortunate opportunity to catch up with Teri - in between coming off her honeymoon and getting her book published! An inspiration indeed...

I'm always in need of a little inspiration and CaribGirl says that I'm HER inspiration, but in following her hair journey, the tables have CERTAINLY been turned! I'm not only very proud of her and her progress, but her journey so far, definitely keeps me focused on the long term!
