to the hair combing video.
READER: That was so hard to watch and so hurtful. In this day and age to see a mother not know how to comb her own child's hair is so so sad. That was just plain abuse.
My grandmother taught me how to comb my hair and I thought it was so amazing since she had straight fine hair the so called "good hair". She told me my mom only hurt me because she had to work and it was to time consuming to take the time to be gentle and use small sections of hair at a time. Well when I told my mom through hysterics and tears that she was hurting me and my Nannie did not hurt me when she comb my hair, it made my mom change her ways. But I was already eight or nine. I was a child who hated my thick "nappy" hair. It was again my grandmother who told me one day I will appreciate my beautiful hair that God gave me and she was so right.
Unfortunately, I still meet grown women who do not know their own hair and speak so badly of it in its natural state. I have a friend who says her hair is like brillo and will only wash it once every three or four months. I laugh sometimes because I used to hate for anyone to touch my hair because I used call it brillo too and that was with a relaxer in. I have been natural for five years now and the last year I have visited sites like LHDC and have learned so so much about my own hair and how to properly care for it. I will never flinch again when someone touches my hair. It is natural and soft like it used to be when I was young.
Thank you for all the time and all the information you have provided us. Our hair is so much apart of our lives as a women and we need to know how to love it and care for it.

LHDC,
I read your blog just about everyday. I love the advice you give and your informative articles.
One article that inspires me is:
I started my growth journey January 30, 2009. That was the last time I went to the hair salon for a touch up and came out with a cut I didn't ask for. My hair ended up being Neck Length. I vowed to never go back to that stylist, or any stylist, since. And I've stuck to my promise.
