On Saturday, the university announced that Dr. Denis Depero had contracted the virus on Christmas Eve, and he was transferred to the hospital earlier this week.
Allegheny, New York – Saint Bonaventure President Dr. Denis DeBeiro is recovering from COVID-19, the university announced in a statement on Saturday.
Dr. Depero tested positive for the virus on Christmas Eve and was rushed to hospital in Syracuse earlier this week after contracting pneumonia, according to University press release.
He has been in his second home in Syracuse since leaving campus on December 18 for a two-week vacation.
“I have started to feel better in the past two days and cannot thank the hospital staff enough for the care I have received,” said Dr. Depero.
Dr. Joseph Zimmer, Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs, will temporarily assume the day-to-day role of Dr. Depero at the University.
“I have full confidence in Dr. Zimmer and the university administration team and I am working on a full recovery. I look forward to returning to campus soon,” added Dr. Depero.
Saint Bonaventure offices reopened on Monday, and lessons begin January 25.
