The source says that the suspect grabbed the officer’s weapon and ran away after a confrontation in the parking lot of the store.
HAMBURG, New York – Two detectives were injured in Hamburg on Wednesday while trying to catch a suspected car thief.
“Be On the Lookout” was released to police agencies in western New York after the incident outside Kohl’s department store on Delaware Avenue in North Buffalo early Wednesday afternoon.
Hamburg police said a car was stolen from McKinley Square on Tuesday in Hamburg. During Wednesday’s theft investigation, Detective Vince Bobo and Scott Fraser went to Kohl’s store on Delaware Avenue to obtain a video of the suspect trying to use a credit card that was in the stolen car.
However, upon arrival, they discover that the suspect is back and is trying to use the stolen credit card again.
Then the police waited for the driver to get it out and get it back. Detectives got up to the suspect in the driver’s seat in the stolen car and “legally ordered him to stop the car and get out of the car.”
What seemed like an occasional break turned out to be dangerous, according to a source, who said instead of giving up, the suspect turned violent.
Hamburg police say the suspect tried to drive away while Bobo was partially inside the car. A struggle ensued and Bobo managed to free himself from the car while the person fled the scene.
Police say both Bobo and Fraser were slightly injured, but that they were expected to be well.
The topic is dangerous. Anyone who meets him is asked not to approach him, but call 911 or the Hamburg Police Department at (716) 648-5111.
